Episode #371 Late Fall St. Clair Muskie

Today the Mercury Marine Destination takes us over to Lake St. Clair in South Western Ontario.

After a run down the highway in the RAM, Charlie Joins up with Captain Jim Fleming of Drifter 2 Charters.  Muskie fishing can be challenging and today it’s cold and windy but the guys do everything to put the odds in their favour.  Weeds are always a problem but snap on weights can do an amazing job at keeping the baits clean, and the Muskies hitting.  Planner boards are needed to spread the lures away from the boat, and line counter reels sure make it easier to repeat what worked the first time! Persistence does pay off.

Episode #368 Spoons Can Be Magic

Today the Mercury Marine Destination takes us to Cree Lake in Northern Saskatchewan.

Pike can be a very aggressive fish and spoons can bring out some amazing strikes, but these aggressive hits can also result in hooking them deep.  If you are going to fish for aggressive species, have the tools ready. Today is a perfect example of showing how to extract the lure from deeply caught Pike with a much less damaging way of removing the hook.  Then, Pike aren’t the only species that can’t resist a wobbling spoon. Giant Lake Trout are also on that list and sometimes its hard to decide what to fish for first.

Today the Mercury Marine Destination takes us to Cochrane in Northern Ontario.

After a run in the RAM, we arrive at Cochrane Air Services for a much-anticipated outing. Fly-in trips are always fun and having a lake all to yourself is a special treat, especially when you bring a helper and have some underwater eyes.  While Walleye are the main target, Pike are always abundant in the North so be prepared.  Drop shot rigs fished close to the bottom are a natural for Walleye, but making them from wire is not only a Pike protector but helps from rocky abrasions.  Get it right and the rewards can be huge!
